Normally the records of people admitted to an asylum are held in that local county's Archives.

You could contact the County Archives and ask if they hold the records of inmates. If they do, then there would be a cost to obtain the copies.

My Gt Grandfather spent his last years in an asylum in Lancashire and I was able to obtain copies of the details from Lancashire Archives. Usually a 100 year closure applies to such records.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I think I've found it.

Could it be two asylums?

I've been looking at Henry's pension record and as I read it, in 1901 he gave himself up to the police in Penge - to take care of him - as he feared doing harm to himself or others, after which he was admitted to Maidstone Asylum for six months, but had not been in an asylum since.

After his discharge in 1916 he originally classified as fit for further service, but then reclassified as unfit owing to loss of memory.

I also wonder if it states that his father spent 6 years in two asylums?
[snap - had typed this then went off to look at potential asylum records]

On the first page if you mean 'Place of discharge' it reads as Hull I think. Then the next page says Cricket Pavilion, Hull.
Probably the death of his 7 year old son lead to his loss of memory as well as the war, poor man.

hi all again, looking at the writing again now it has been pointed out I would agree the word I Thought was (hove)is more like (two) without the crossbar on the T. :I should have paid more attention to real writing lessons in school: Looking at Henrys discipline record I am surprised he lasted as long as he did.thanks for any info.
