Just a long shot - there is an item in 1896:

"BOSWELL'S CIRCUS - Manager, Mr. Frank Rogers, jun. - This circus is open for the season in Lytham-road. The company, a powerful one, is the same as last week."
Saturday,  July 18, 1896

Numerous mentions of Boswell's Circus, they travelled around England from the late 1880s to at least 1910.
