Judith / Julia Connell - Addergoole
« on: Sunday 10 November 24 11:48 GMT (UK) »
I walked away from this as I was going round in circles with it.  I am hoping someone with more expertise than me can help.

JUDITH CONNELL BORN 1845, Addergoole Beg, Dunmore, Galway.  Baptism was 25 February 1845 (Mother was Bridgit Mannion and Father John Connell

Judith was born to John Connell, my 3x Grandfather (born 1784 to 17 March 1870 - Tuam).  John was married to Bridget Mannion (27 Oct 1811 to 5 Feb 1891 - Dunmore).  They were married in 12 Oct 1837 - Tuam.

Catherine his 1st Daughter was born in 1842 to 1942, although records vary of her age anything between 100 and 104.  Catherine is my 2x Grandmother.  I know this is correct as I found relatives through this page along with photos.  I also found relatives not far from where I live when her sons moved to Yorkshire.

The fly in the ointment so far is Judith or Julia.  She is one covert lady that I cannot put a lid on it apart from her birth.  Mother and Father both died before the 1901 Census so thats put that out the door.  So I have no idea if she married, or died as a spinster or young.

Annoyingly some records state: Dunmore, Tuam, Dunmore, Addergoole, Addergoole Beg

I would love to know if she married, had a family etc.  If not did she remain in Addergoole?  The Headstone for the family does state Rattigan family were responsible for the plot and that "all the Connell family are Interred here".  If she and her sister Catherine are in there, I am unable to find anything recording the death of Julie / Judith

Hope this can help resolve my search for Judith or Julia.  Ancestry does throw up records of a child going to America, but the family didn't go to America, my Gt Gt Grandma remained in Addergoole (Found the family plot with headstone).  I have not signed up for world access, too expensive for me - thank you

Is this Bridget’s death in 1891
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1891/06078/4733466.pdf

The informant is ‘Kate Connell, her daughter.’

Is the Catherine you refer to? Did she marry another Connell?

Added - found her marriage so that solves that.

There are few burial records in Irish church registers so if she died young it is unlikely you will find her.

Have you traced the Rattigan family?

Hi

I am referring to Catherine sister Judith/Julia Connell.  When I look at the baptism actual record they name her Judith.   I have everything on Catherine Connell.  It is Judith I am referring to.  Judith can also be misinterpreted as Julia - Cheers

Yes they are the ones that helped me with Catherine Connell and gave me her photo and also grandaughters Mary and Kate.  The extended family actually live in the next town to me!  Never knew that.  I have not been in touch with the Rattigan Family again, due to a couple of bereavements and also didn't wish to appear that I am only after family records.  I felt they had done enough for me if that makes sense.

After speaking to the Rattigan Family and getting in touch with Milltown Heritage I found the family burial plots and it all grew legs from there.  it just did not answer anything to do with Judith :-) :)

Reply re Catherine

Yes, I am aware of that but it is good to try to get a bigger picture - e.g. who was the informant, who sponsors/witnesses were - just in case.

I have Judiths in the West of Ireland but also in other parts I have Joanna/Julia which made searches more difficult.

Reply re the Rattigans - are they related through the Connells? That is what I meant as they have provided the headstone.
If so, is it Catherine Connell’s family or her husband’s?

Mary Connell married in to the Rattigan Family, and used that to trace back to Judith  :-\  The Rattigan Family did provide the burial plot where the Connell family are interred.  As I understand it, from my mum the Connell family were extremely poor
