Hi,

I just wondered if anyone might have heard of somewhere called Magnasfeld  in Gloucestershire please or whether anyone might be able to tell me if this name relates to an existing place please?

This appears to be an early English Will and difficult to decipher.

Just to helps things along, whose Will and date is it?   John Thathborne????  Surnames mentioned etc.   Sometimes these Wills etc are on National Archives and the brief details on the site does help.

On the Forest of Dean website, they have transcribed Gloucestershire Bonds and Licences...

In the early  18th century records, Mangottsfield (sometimes has two 'tt' s...)

One in 1785 and another in 1806 - states, Mangotsfield in the County of Gloucester and Diocese of Bristol).

It's a record from Kings Bench, Hilary term 1544. John Chatborne at the top is in a different entry.

It is indexed here:

Hi Daisypetal,

Thanks for getting back to me, I think you might be right. I was interested in Edward Bassett and searching his name with Mangotsfield returned a book called 'Sixteenth Century Court Book of Siston' which ties it all together!

Thanks for your help 😊

Hi Capetown,

It is a court case involving Edward Bassett, Thomas Pymme, riotous behaviour and illicit meeting. I would love to know what they were doing. It is the 5th entry on the image!

I couldn't work out where it was but Mangotsfield fits nicely.

I will check out the Forest of Dean site you mentioned to see if I can find anything further.

Thanks for your help 😊
