Random Cold Call from My Heritage Website
« on: Wednesday 06 November 24 15:58 GMT (UK) »
I've just received a phone call from someone claiming they are from My Heritage website asking if I need any help with their website as I've not built a family tree on there or anything, and could they help me with anything!

Has anyone else had this call? I'm thinking it's a hoax and politely declined any help.

Strange! ???
Ceney/Senay/Seaney (West Bromwich/Sedgley/Tipton/Pennsylvania) My Paternal Family Tree.
Bell/Hannah - Maternal Family Tree
Briggs/Morris - Adopted (or fostered in this case) Maternal Family Tree.

Not sure what the scam would be, but it sounds like something to ignore.

I had a call a while back - here's my post

I've had no further calls but still think its a scam.  I think perhaps My Heritage was hacked....

8 or 10 years ago when I started all this I created a new email address which I have never used for anything else except for my initial MyH research. A year or two later I created a second one which I use for the DNA access. I get a lot of spam coming to the first address.  Just this morning I got one claiming to be a reminder for my television license.  It contained a totally spurious link to some dodgy website.

from https://haveibeenpwned.com/

MyHeritage: In October 2017, the genealogy website MyHeritage suffered a data breach. The incident was reported 7 months later after a security researcher discovered the data and contacted MyHeritage. In total, more than 92M customer records were exposed and included email addresses and salted SHA-1 password hashes. In 2019, the data appeared listed for sale on a dark web marketplace (along with several other large breaches) and subsequently began circulating more broadly. The data was provided to HIBP by a source who requested it be attributed to "BenjaminBlue@exploit.im".

Compromised data: Email addresses, Passwords
