Parish Churches and Family records
« on: Tuesday 05 November 24 02:03 GMT (UK) »
I have wondered for a while now when searching through parish records during the early 1800's, how loyal were families to one specific church . If for example records of a families baptisms were at St Finbars church , would it be possible to find the same family records for other relatives from different years at St Marys ,or St Marks ect ?
     thanx Melanie

in the early 1800's most people walked to their closest church, I would have thought if a labourer got a new job and residence he wouldn't have walked an extra 3 miles (extra hour each way) back to his old church. Maybe you are referring to eg Dublin or Cork cities where churches were a bit closer, but you would have to examine the histories of the buildings to see how many options were available at the time - was St Marks consecrated 1805 or 1825 and was it then more convenient for the brother who lived in that neighbourhood.

Hi, that makes sense , and yes my searches are for both the city of Cork also Dublin city . which made me wonder with all the churches being so close .
