Some people who borrowed many fiction books from the library used to mark each book before returning it, with their own symbol in a particular corner so they would know if they had read it before.  Except that central libraries would buy more than one copy of the most popular authors/publishers so the system was not foolproof!

Thanks for the advice Spelk but I am very old fashioned and only have the internet on my laptop. I could possibly use that but have never tried.

As an avid reader as a child and a Librarian many years ago I prefer the feel of a book in my hands when reading.

Molly C - I remember all those marks in the books from my Librarian days.

Spelk, I'm the same as you, I read Kindle books on my tablet and only use my actual Kindle for reading outside.
I also read paperbacks when I'm having a bath.  :D I've had a couple of problems when I've downloaded books that I thought I hadn't read as Amazon didn't say that I'd previously purchased them, only to realise later that I've read them in paperback! Oh well, not too bad when I've only paid 99p.

For anyone who hasn't had this one, The Chester Creek Murders by Nathan Dylan Goodwin is currently on offer for Kindle at 99p.

I've read all of this author's books but I must say I don't like the Venator cold cases series as much as his previous ones. Maybe it's because I haven't done anything with DNA, I find it a bit complicated. Not wanting to put anyone off of course!

I don't have and have never wanted a Kindle, as I love holding a book and turning the pages.  I often try to find books by these authors in my local library, but can never find them.  Perhaps they are so popular that they are always out on loan.

The staff at your library will be able to tell you if they stock the books, just tell them the name of the author and they'll be able to look it up for you. If the book you want is out on loan they can reserve it for you.

If your local library doesn't have them then other libraries in the area might have them,  in which case your local library can obtain the book for you for a small fee.

If you're open to buying used books you can often find them online. If I want paperbacks (I read them in the bath!) I use a company called Abe Books which was recommended by another Rootschatter. For instance,  the first of Nathan Dylan Goodwin’s series, Finding the Past, is currently available for 80p, plus £2.20 postage. There are several more, a number of which are only slightly higher prices.

I hope you manage to read them, one way or another.  :)

Doesn't your bath water get cold while you read? :o
Yes, I will speak to the library staff on my next visit.  If only we still had our mobile library, whose librarian was so helpful!
We already have far to many books at home, so I am trying to avoid buying any more, though any surplus will be passed on to a charity shop.
