Newspaper look-up please: Ivy Annie Danby (1898-1975)
« on: Sunday 03 November 24 11:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am researching Ivy Annie Danby, born Bassingham 15th August 1898, daughter of Charles William Danby and his wife, Sarah Ann (nee Smart); died Dunholme, Lincs. Sep Q 1975.
She is not family; I am just doing it because I recently bought a 1908 postcard addressed to her.

I subscribe to Ancestry and have found her in 1898 (baptism), 1901, 1911, 1939, 1961 (Telephone Directory) and 1975 (death).
But there is one more resource that I cannot access, and it looks most interesting.
Newspapers.com has an entry for her in Wednesday 4th September 1940's issue of the Lincolnshire Echo.

Would it be possible for anyone to please let me know what it says?

Thanks in advance. ;)

It concerns the Dunholme Fete.

Miss Ivy Danby was a stall holder.
It was for the benefit of the Lindsey Blind Society.
A Mr. C Danby helped run the competitions and a Mrs. Danby along with a Mr. Scott made the general arrangements.

Thank you most kindly!

C. Danby would have been her father, Charles, and Mrs. Danby would have been her mother, Sarah Ann.

Thanks again. ;)

I found this too (I’ve retained the article’s paragraphs):

Lincolnshire Echo December 29, 1975

Quote
Tribute from a village

In the village of Dunholme, Miss Ivy Danby was always a figure in the background – but almost invariably the driving force behind successful fund raising events for the village church and other causes.

A retired schoolteacher, she died this year. But the work of Miss Danby, whose home was in Lincoln Road, will never be forgotten.

For, after her death her friend, Mrs. Mary Neal who lives at 80 Lincoln Road, Dunholme, organised a memorial fund.

She handed the proceeds to the church, and the money was used to buy a hymn board, which has been put up in the church.

Miss Danby, who was in her seventies, was a school teacher at Scothern for 30 years until she retired about 10 years ago.

As well as the village church she also helped the village school and Parent Teachers Association.

Wow!
Thank you Alan - greatly appreciated.
I'll add this information.

For anyone who is interested, here is a link to the page that I have created for her...

There's also a Legal Notice in a November 1975 issue relating to any claims on her estate. Two pieces of information can be gleaned from this:

1) She died on the 18th August 1975
2) Her address was 'Ingleside', Lincoln Road, Dunholme

Thanks again.
I knew that she was at Ingleside; the 1961 Telephone Directory placed her there back then, but I wasn't aware that she had died there.
The exact date is very useful too, thanks.
