GOUGH MARRIED ESSE - I think
« on: Sunday 03 November 24 06:06 GMT (UK) »
Need some detective work please.
I have an ancestor by the name of Alfred Esse born 12 May 1868 Ealing London who had a child a child with an Annie Agnes Gough. The child Dorothy Gertrude Esse was born on 13 April 1890 Great Totham England. Don't know if he married Annie.

Alfred later married Ethel Cannon on 16 March 1898 – I have marriage certificate - and they had two children, John born 1 April 1899 – died 21st May 1899. The second child Christine Margaret Hathaway Esse was born in Ealing on 27 June 1900 - I have birth certificate.
He disappeared sometime after the birth of Christine and has not been recorded anywhere at all.
Birth/Death/Marriage/Census/and everything I can think off has been searched by me and a cousin.
Ethel is recorded in the 1911 census with her daughter aged 10 and living with her parents the Cannon family - also in another census when Christine was 1 year old.
Thank you for help or guidance.

On the 1898 marriage certificate, how is Alfred's marital status listed and what is his occupation?
On the 1890 birth certificate, who is the informant and what is Alfred's occupation?
On the 1900 birth certificate, who is the informant and what is Alfred's occupation?
On both birth certificates, What was the address of birth and address of informant?

I see that his mother, Emma, died in 1912 and left probate in 1913 Alfred's older brother Walter was the executor. A copy of her will might offer useful info.

The 1890 birth for Dorothy was registered as Esse - mmn Gough

Does her birth cert show Annie as Annie Gough or as Annie Esse nee Gough?

On the 1898 marriage certificate, how is Alfred's marital status listed and what is his occupation?
He is a bachelor and a representative of a brewery
On the 1890 birth certificate, who is the informant and what is Alfred's occupation?
Annie Agnes Maria Esse (formerly Gough)  – Mother   Alfred is a Publican
On the 1900 birth certificate, who is the informant and what is Alfred's occupation?
Ethel A Esse – Mother – Commercial Traveller - Father
On both birth certificates, What was the address of birth and address of informant?
On Christine’s certificate the mother’s address is 144 Gordon Rd, Ealing.
On Dorothy’s certificate the address is Great Totham
I see that his mother, Emma, died in 1912 and left probate in 1913 Alfred's older brother Walter was the executor. A copy of her will might offer useful info.
Will have to look into this. Thanks.
