I am not sure what the N stood for.
My grandfather was foreman at the Windsor yard in 1921.
Link with more info to folllow shortly, hopefully.

GF was in the army, his mother’s Lipscomb family had connections with the pleasure boating business on the Thames at Windsor and Maidenhead. (B. 1849 Cookham Dean, Berkshire, England
D: 25/4/1917 Windsor Berkshire England

Her husband started a cabbing business. Wellington Street would have been a frequent destination for fares. also links with The White Heart Hotel in Windsor. As a boy he was ‘Boots’ there.

William Nosworthy Thomas was a marine store dealer at Alma Road, 1917. The item mentions an employee "rag sorting".
Presumably you've picked up you GF's employer from the 1921 Census?
