Vair Ker
« on: Wednesday 16 October 24 20:31 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find where the information can be found for the birth of Vair Ker sdaughter of Thomas Ker of Redden.  There have been various references showing 1636, some on Ancestry.  I am not on Ancestry, but I cannot find any reference at all on ScotlandsPeople.  Does anyone have an actual source?

I also don’t see it indexed on Scotland’s People. However, it is on FamilySearch:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X111-SMQ
Document Information: Digital Folder Number 7, 8057643
Microfilm Number 1067952, 102302
Originating System ODM
Indexing Batch
C11807-2
"Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950", , FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X111-SMQ : 16 September 2021), Vair_ Ker, 1636.

The attached screenshot may also be of help. I believe it is from:
A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain Band 1 von History of the landed gentry of Great Britain and Ireland, Bernard Burke Harrison & Sons, 1900

It records Vair being born in July 1636.

The full book was available on the internet archive but that website is currently down so the link I have is no longer working. A later edition is available on google books but I don’t see a mention of Vair in this edition:

https://books.google.de/books?id=2v8-AQAAMAAJ&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&dq=the%20landed%20gentry&hl=de&pg=PA1022#v=onepage&q=redden&f=false

Perhaps you can contact Scotland's and enquire about the missing entry?

Welcome to Roots chat.

According to the records on SP births in Sprouston begin 1635, there are a number for Sir Thomas a little later but with different wives. Sadly no Vair, it would be worth contacting SP and they will check to see if the records has survived.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

I can pretty well document my ancestry back to this Wair Ker married to Johne Hog, and do have this marriage record.  I don't know of any other Vair Ker with the right timing other than this daughter of Sir Thomas Ker of Redden.

I have transcriptions in English and French of Sir Thomas Ker's
'Notebook Containing Jumbled Notes and Memoranda in French and Vernacular by Sir Thomas Ker of Redden 1620-1650'

In this he lists what looks to be 20 children, with at least 3 wives.  He lists at least 4 children born after 1644 which I have seen as his death date.

Does anyone have a source for his death date?

Thanks for your interest, and I will try to follow up with ScotlandsPeople regarding Vair's baptism.
