George Minney Marriages in Indiana in 1840s
« on: Thursday 17 October 24 16:37 BST (UK) »
Hi
Need help please with some marriages in Indiana as I don't have access to US original records, just the transcripts.
I have a George Minney who emigrated to America and appears in 1840 census, in Pidgeon, Vanderburg, Indiana with a wife and child under 5. I am hoping it's his wife Hannah, whom he married in 1836 in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England, but I cannot find a death.

So my first question is: can anyone find me a death for a Hannah Minney in 1840-43 in, or near, Vanderburg Indiana please?

I have found two marriages for George Minney in Vanderburg, Indiana:
1) 5 Aug 1843 to Ann Manchett
2) 13 Nov 1845 to Sarah Beul (or Beal)

So my second question is: if anyone has access to the originals of these transcripts, could they tell me the marriage status and parentage of George, Ann and Sarah please?

Many thanks
Helen

It looks like they could be seen at a Family Search Center or affiliate library.

I suspect it's too early to have detail about parents.  There is an image of a 1845 Indiana marriage here - https://blog.library.in.gov/finding-indiana-birth-marriage-and-death-records-online/ - and no parents or marriage status mentioned.

Hi guys
Sorry I’ve been away so long, been sick. Not a good time, first I had a bad reaction to my Covid jab then I managed to get food poisoning! Much better now, thankfully, and able to get back to family history.

Wow! Thanks for all the input guys and the links!

I was trying to find confirmation that the George Minney born about 1812 in Huntingdonshire and who married Hannah Pauley in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, was the same man who was in the 1840 census in Pigeon, Indiana, and in 1843 married Ann Manchett, and finally, in 1845, married Sarah Beul/Beal. If George had been a widower in both marriages, that would have strengthened my case.

I haven’t yet been able to get to my local FamilySearch Centre (part-time at two days a week in the next town) but I did find on the FamilySearch website that if I searched for just “Minney” in location “Indiana, United States”  and looked under “Memories” there was a piece written by a descendant “Solving the Minney Conundrum”, which confirms my theory and agrees with research done in England by the folks that subscribe to “The Minney Newsletter” at https://www.minney.org.uk.

It would be nice to have the images of the marriages lend extra weight to my theory but I think that might not happen, so will have to go with what I have.

Thanks
Helen
