Noble Houses - lineage of Longe family
« on: Thursday 17 October 24 07:45 BST (UK) »
I believe that I have found a relative who is name Lady Jane Longe who I believed married into the Rudman family.  How do this titles work?  Does she remain a lady after marriage?  Can anyone help me with how to write up this lineage?  I believe she was the daughter of Sir Henry Longe. who I believe had close connections with the throne.  I am interested in how to write this information correctly (including any interesting stories of the family)  Any help would be gratefully received.

The wife of a knight would be called Lady. The daughter would have no title.

Is this the person you mean? This is from the Visitation of Wiltshire. This has Sir Henry Longe, of Dracottsterne, Wilts, who was married twice. His children listed here are Robert, Bendick/Benedict, Edmond and Anthony. There are no daughters listed, but they often weren't.

There's a will of Sir Henry Longe of Draycot Cerne, 1556.

In the will of Henry Longe he mentions:

William Long, relationship not stated
"my frende Thomas Longe"
daughter Elizabeth
sons John, Edmond, Richard
son and heir, executor Robert
son (in law?) Robert Hongerford
brother Robert Longe
son in law Henry Brittayn

There were other people named, such as servants and tenants, but I didn't see a daughter Jane.

Hello Hanes Teulu,  Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I cannot access your information. My computer simply says 'Safari cannot unload'.  Can you please send it again. Thank you

Just pop "henry long" (include the "  ") in Search

https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/

Or simply google "The |History of Parliament online"

The problem could be Safari, if it's an old computer and old browser. I have an old computer with Safari and a newer Chrome. History of Parliament loads on Chrome but not on Safari.
