Georgia marriages 1900-1940

Hi all, where can I find marriages in Georgia, USA between 1900 and 1940 especially Taylor County ?  There appears to be a large gap for that time and place. I have searched Ancestry and Familyseach.org. Thanks for any help, Pete.

Thanks for that, started searching that 3rd one which I did not have but it appears it has the same gaps, I am missing about 12 Culverhouse's that were married between the years 1900-1940. I can only assume that they were married in a Chapel and no records exist. All in Taylor County. I will let you know if I find more, thanks again, Peter.

Just because the records aren't online doesn't mean they don't exist.  It would be nice if everything was online, but that's not the case yet.  Churches keep records too.

Per Family Search Wiki for Georgia: 

"Marriages Before 1952

    Marriage records are kept by the probate court for each county, and recording usually begins at the creation of the county."

Perhaps you could look for newspaper announcements of the weddings and, if you wanted to order the record after knowing the date, you could.  Various results for Culverhouse in Taylor Co. newspapers here - https://gahistoricnewspapers.galileo.usg.edu/

Getting married in a "Chapel" doesn't mean that the marriage can go unregistered.  In Georgia, pretty much anyone who calls himself a clergyman is authorized to conduct marriages.  But marriages are not legally valid until the required paperwork has been signed and submitted to the civil authorities.

Thanks all, just seems strange there are so many missing and that is just surname Culverhouse so there must be hundreds more. Thanks again, searching through all those links again. Peter.

I don't think there's any state in the US that has every possible vital record online.  Definitely most of them do not have everything online. 

Some only put older records up for privacy reasons.  Some get grants to make the public databases for certain time frames happen.  Some will only do indexes.  Some have cities or counties that put genealogical records online, while other areas in that state do not.  Some states get sued and have to put the information out there (see, for example, the work of this organization - https://www.reclaimtherecords.org/).

So, there's a good chance that nothing in Taylor County, Georgia is missing.  It's just not online and, if you want it, you're going to have to contact the local probate court or local clerk and probably spend money on the research.
