Can anyone find an obituary or other record of Percival George Smith?  Here is what I have:

Born 3 October 1907 23 Warner St, Islington, London
Resided 1911 Lower Holloway, Islington, London with parents George and Charlotte Smith
Died June 1979 Chichester, Sussex (Vol 18 p1518)

Buying a copy of the death cert will show who reported the death but that is not always a relative so may not help

I thought i could only get death certs up to 1958. Is there a way to order a 1979 cert?

Use freeBMD to get the references

Deaths Jun 1979   (>99%)
SMITH    PERCIVAL GEORGE    3OC1907    CHICHESTER    18   1518

Then go to https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/app_select.asp

And enter the details in the boxes and pay the money .  Full price the only option I think for that recent a death.

For info. from the London Electoral Register I can confirm that the Smith’s are not living at 140 Liverpool Road, Islington in 1939 (surnames Evans, Griffiths & Warren) nor the year 1938 (surnames Austin, Evans & Warren)

Winfred Rose could have married, there is an entry in Islington Jun 1938 to Pearce, banns were read 6th, 13th 20th March 1938

I went to the library as suggested and dug into the 1939 register.

But I couldnt find the info you gave on Dorothy and Winifred. Thanks so much for figuring that out.

I ordered Percival's death cert. I'll let you know what it says.

I agree with you that the electoral register reveals a lot, including the disappearance of Percival's dad George Charles in 1925. It appears that was the year he passed.

My ggm Amy Frances Welch nee Smith was estranged from her brother George Charles at the time of his death. Only sketchy details about this line of descendants were known to me but you and the rest of the good people on this thread have effected a belated reunion of sorts. For that I am grateful.

I received the death cert yesterday. The place and date of birth are a match. The informant is Freda V Smith.
