Hi again.
I'm still on with researching my wife's line, and some of these Stobbarts are proving quite elusive!
I am currently hunting down THOMAS STOBBART born c1830 in Washington, Durham.
In 1841 I have him in Coxhoe Joint Stock Colliery Homes, Kelloe, Durham, with his parents Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Bygate).
In 1851, now a coal miner, he was still with his parents, this time in New Cassop, Cassop, Durham.
There then follows a frustrating gap of twenty years before he marries Elizabeth Jane Carroll in the Sep Q of 1872.
They subsequently appear in the 1881 Census at Lizzie Pit (Colliery) in Greencroft, Durham, together with their new family and other elements of Elizabeth's birth family.
Elizabeth died in the Sep Q 1882, and in 1891 Thomas is in South Pontop, Annfield Plain, Greencroft, Durham, with his second wife, Mary (nee Cresswell, but was Berkeley/Berkley when she married him in Mar Q 1884), some of his children, new son Cresswell Stobbart and Mary's son Alfred Berkley from her first marriage (wrongly named Stobbart and son of Thomas)
In 1901 they are still in South Pontop.
I have no death date for him.
Several other researchers have this as 1906, but I am wary because his wife/widow Mary and her son Cresswell Stobbart appear in the 1911 Census where she is a Boarding House Keeper in Front Street, Annfield Plain, and declares herself "married" - if so, where is Thomas?
Using Ancestry I have found a couple of Thomas Stobbarts for 1861 and 1871 but the birthplaces, occupations and ages are wrong. Again, other researchers seem to have blithely added these to their family lines!
Any accurate help for 1861, 1871 and death would be hugely appreciated, please.
Thanks in advance.
