@garibbaldired Thanks, I tried that and found out that it was also known as the Drum and Monkey. Also that it is now a residential building. Looking at an OS map I found a candidate, (labelled B.H. on the map linked below), and a quick visit on streetview reveals that the house there is indeed called The Drum and Monkey. The lane that it is on is called Drum Lane.

I still haven’t found any newspaper hits for it: presumably it was so far off the beaten track that nothing that happened there ever got mentioned outside Wonston.

Yes that was what I found too.
Just had a quick look at the newspapers on FindMyPast and the same advice applies: ignore Wonston and enter Hazelbury Bryan instead. There seem to be quite a few references including a report on its impending closure in 1969.

Can anyone throw any light on why there was a very large party of 20 children listed as staying at the Drum Inn September 1939, all except 2 still have not been named. There do not appear to be any adults listed. Any ideas/info appreciated. Thanks Brionne.

You are looking at the last page which is always a continuation page.  These are the people whose medical records in the final clolumn did not fit into their original entry and so have been continued on to the last page.  They are generally younger people who were around long enough after 1939 to generate lots of NHS entries.

At the Drum Inn at Wonston in Sturminster R.D. I can see a family of 5 called Knight  :-\ , one name redacted.

Albert Knight still at The Drum Inn in 1948 (Western Gazette, 16 January 1948)
