Problems with my Barnett
« on: Monday 30 September 24 05:12 BST (UK) »
Morning to all . Apologies for this post being a little long winded .
Looking for a little help with new Barnett surnames to my treeline I've been working on over the weekend .
From Familysearch I have Thomas Burnett ( known to be a mariner ) and family in Hotwells Rd , Bristol which I believe from Bristols Lost Pubs website to be The Tiger Tavern , 42 Hotwells Rd . I have asked of any knowledge for this public house on a local site but as of yet no info . of possible use although I believe I have defined its position .
From the 1851 census return , Thomas Barnett was b . in Milford est . 1794 ( 1841 suggests Glouc ) and died Jun 1/4 1862  Clifton 6a 48 .
Jane Barnett ( wife ) is shown on the 1851 as b . Swansea est 1795 ( 1841 suggests Glouc ) and 1871 census shows her as a widowed beer keeper 76 y b . Swansea ( Bristols Lost Pubs site again suggests she is still at The Tiger Tavern, Hotwells ) .
She has died at 77 y  Clifton 6a 48 in Mar 1/4 1872 .

A Familysearch entry shows a Thomas Barnett and Jane ( Hopkins ) mrd . in Bristol 24 Feb 1817 and is the only name connection I've found for a Thomas and Jane ( Barnett ) . This marriage falls in line with the bp . of the early children .

Has anyone info . ref . this mrg . to support the Barnett / Hopkins connection in Bristol . Familysearch shows St . James is where some of their children were bp . and maybe the church of choice for the mrg .
Also I have no 1861 census record of the family and believe as they were at 42 Hotwells Rd ( Tiger Tavern ) in 1841 , 1851 and known there ( Jane ) in 1871 , that they were at this address .
Any help would be much appreciated , thankyou in advance

Swansea is also a port town, Thomas was a mariner, there is a possibility he met and married Jane in

Swansea, later moving to Bristol.

1861 Hotwells Road is around  RG9/1727 f10 p14 & RG9/1727 f24 p1.

There are no property numbers showing.  I have not looked at further pages around these areas.

The son is named Thomas Rees Barnett bap 7 March 1830 at St James Bristol.

Could Rees be an indication of his mother's maiden name?

22 July 1870: Western Daily Press

added: a reference to a Mr Thomas King being the resident of the Tiger Tavern in 1872 suggests that this death put an end to the Barnett tenancy.

Re 1861 for Jane.

On the line above her entry but indicated in the same household there is a ?? Rees a 33 year old carpenter. Writing is awful and the household marker could be in the wrong place, but the Rees surname made me wonder.
