Hi Folks,
I'm working on an episode for my podcast,
The Nutty Chronicles (which has sadly been dormant for way too long). The episode features the story of 3GGF James Nutty, who moved from Cork to Dublin between the mid-1790s and 1807 when my 2GGF John Nutty was born in Cork.
Unsurprisingly, what I know about James is fragmentary, derived from records associated with his children's births and marriages. I do know that James was a weaver and that he lived on Union Street in Dublin (no longer extant - but was on the North side of the Liffey near the modern-day Abbey Theatre)
I now need to locate an expert on local Cork history willing to give insight into weaving in Cork City in the latter part of the 18th and early 19th centuries. I'm trying to develop an understanding of Cory City at that time. What were James' work options? What might his family have experienced?
Speculations about why James and his wife Alice moved their family from Dublin to Cork are welcome. I imagine it was no small effort for a family with children to relocate
