Vinzenz Dinger (Bohemia)
« on: Saturday 28 September 24 12:28 BST (UK) »
I was hoping someone could help with me finding out more about my great-grandfather, Vinzenz Dinger. He was born in Děčín/Tetchen in Bohemia in 1833. His parent's name were Gottlieb and Franziska Dinger. Gottlieb was a blacksmith. Vinzenz migrated to England, but I am not sure when. He became  a surgical bootmaker in London.

I know a lot about what he did after he went to England, but nothing of his life in Bohemia before that. I don't even know how he got to England, nor do I know his mother's maiden name. I've tried various sources, even websites dedicated to Czech genealogy, but have never had any luck. If anyone could help or give me some suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
Just noticed your post!

For the Tetschen region, the Czech archives you require are State Regional Archives Litoměřice.

Here is a useful guide to using the archives

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Litom%C4%9B%C5%99ice_Regional_Archives,_Czechia_Church_Records

This link will take you  straight to the search page.

I see from his naturalisation certificate that Vinzenz was actually from Wilsdorf in the Tetschen district. This village is now called Vilsnice.

To get you started here is his baptism on 6th August 1833 :) Abode house 17 Wilsdorf, born on the 5th August

There are several other children born to this couple, and it looks like his mother was previously married to Johann Georg Dörre of Wilsdorf house 7, she is the daughter of Johann Franz Hübner , a farmer of Krochwitz 7 and  Ma(ria) Anna Hanel from Seldnitz house 5

Gottlob Dinger, smith, was the son of Johann Gottlob Dinger, a farmer in   Reick Saxony,  and wife Rosina Hauswald from Golberode  in Saxony, Germany . A later baptism of a child in 1841 says Gottlob was a Lutheran.

You may also find this useful, as a lot of the work has been done, but you can check it all in the original records. ;D

Reick is now a suburb of Dresden, and Golberode is about 6km to the south west.

Thank you so much! This information is exactly what I have been looking for for so long. I can't tell how much I appreciate your reply and your help! I'm a bit unwell at the moment, but I will have a better look through in the next few days, but what I have already seen is fantastic, and really breaks down a large wall that has been in front of me for many years!

When I'm better, I will put up a picture of Vinzenz so you can put a face to the name. I think it was taken to celebrate him becoming a British citizen. His descendants have gone far and wide, and I am descended from his eldest son, Alfred, who migrated to Australia (where I am now) with his wife and family in 1911.

Thank you once again!

Hi fiddlerslass, many apologies for the big delay in posting this. I have attached a photo of the Dinger family in London, circa 1890s. Vinzenz is on the far right, standing next to his wife, with his hand on her shoulder. My grandfather, Alfred Vinzenz, is standing on the far left.

Thank you once for all your help!
