Checking newspapers for death of Hannah Redman.
« on: Wednesday 25 September 24 09:59 BST (UK) »
I don't have access to newspaper archives and I wonder if someone who has could check the following for me please.

Hannah Redman had a son George baptised at St Mary's in Billingshurst then no further record of her.  Her husband Edward re-married in 1804 so presumably Hannah must have died in the intervening period but there's no burial record for her.

Could someone check if there's any newspaper record of Hannah's death in the period 1800 to 1804, even possibly her suicide please.

Thanks.

Sorry can't see anything in the Newspapers on FindMyPast but not particularly good coverage of Sussex.

What year was George baptised?

George was baptised at the general Barptist in Horsham so it is possible that Hannah's burial was nonconformist. I have found a tree which gives her death as 23 April 1802 but no source is given and I cannot find anything to confirm that this is correct.

Thanks for your replies.

I need to check a few things that you've found to see if that could fit in with what I know.

It is Hannah's missing burial that is the puzzle so any lead is welcome.

A search of newspapers on Find My Past and also the British Newspaper Archives site has failed to come up with her death.

Wikipedia has an article on Billingshurst Unitarian Chapel, originally Billingshurst General Baptist Chapel, erected 1754 and "still set in the middle of its original graveyard".

If you have not already done so, it may be worth contacting West Sussex Record Office (www.westsussex.gov.uk) for any info re burial registers, monumental inscriptions, etc.

Thanks, I'll check with the West Sussex Records Office and thanks for checking the newspapers.

Don't think there's anymore that anyone can so thanks again.  :)
