Do you have access to newspapers - the Alderley & Wilmslow Advertiser, 17 Feb 1928, names him as the "the plaintiff" in a court case. There is reference to " ... the lady who is now his wife ..." and " ... Edna Prince, wife of the plaintiff gave evidence ...".

Narrows down possible marriage date.

'the lady who is now his wife' relates to the defendants wife and not Edna Prince.

Yes you are right, however, further down in the article it mentions Edna Prince as the plaintiffs wife giving evidence.

In which newspaper is the 1933 death announcement for CHP?

Its in the Alderley & Wilmslow Advertiser 17th November 1933. Its very brief.

"PRINCE On November 11th 1933 at Thornhill, Alderley Edge, CHARLES HENRY husband of Edna PRINCE"

I've been looking for a burial and so far have ruled out Alderley Edge Cemetery [where is was living and burial place of his son Arnold by his first wife] and St Bartholomew's Churchyard [where his parents were buried]. I think St John's Church, Lindow in Wilmslow is likely as that's where his first wife was buried but haven't found anything to confirm yet.

Is Edna still around in 1939?  If you can find her on the 1939 register (she might still be at the 1933 address if you're lucky) her DoB might enable you to find a birth registration.  GRO index gives full names as well as mmn.

Jane :-)

Thanks Jane. I've been looking at the 1939 but haven't found anything. I have been struggling with FindMyPast today so haven't done an address search yet.

I think I've found it!

Managed to get on FindMyPast to do an address search. Thornhill isn't listed but its on Heyes Lane in Alderley Edge and at number 5 is an Emma Prince, who is a widow. Born 18th Dec 1887.

So the marriage is 2nd qtr 1927 Blackburn 8e 812 Charles H Prince and Emma Vernon.

The newspaper has misprinted Emma's name as Edna twice, in 1928 and 1933!

Thanks so much for everyone's input. I can move forward with this now.  :)

This is great thanks. I wasn't expecting a cremation.

They've got his wife as Edna again. I'm second guessing myself now having just confirmed her as Emma.

In the 1939 record Emma Prince is at no.5 Heyes Lane.

No. 3 is Oak Meadows, No 12 is Inglewood, numbers between these are not named.

In the 1921, going by schedule number, Thornhill is recorded between Oak Meadows and Inglewood. There are three different households (including the Prince's) with the address Thornhill.

Yes I noticed that there were several families recorded as living at Thornhill, even in the earlier censuses.

I am wondering if they were a small group of terraced houses, and the group was called Thornhill. I think the 1939 Register is the first time I've seen a number.

A friend of mine who lives in the village is going to have a wander down when he gets chance and see what's there.

I had a quick look on street view. Assuming numbering hasn’t changed, the low numbers were at the south end of Heyes Lane and there is some new development around there. Unfortunately there are very few houses named on the 25 inch maps around that time.

There are newspaper references to “Thornhill, Heyes Lane” up to the 1960s. I checked this earlier on, from memory numbers 4 and 6 were mentioned.
