Marriage Help - Charles Henry Prince COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Wednesday 18 September 24 13:59 BST (UK) »
Charles Henry Prince [1864-1933] was born Chorley, Cheshire [later became Alderley Edge] and appears to have spent his entire life in the village. He was an insurance agent/photographer.

He married Ann Jane Ridgway [1856-1926] in 1881. She died on 26th October 1926.

Charles himself died on 11th November 1933. The newspaper announcement says he was the husband of Edna Prince.

So I am looking for a second marriage for him and I can't find one.

Looking for help please.  :)

Do you have access to newspapers - the Alderley & Wilmslow Advertiser, 17 Feb 1928, names him as the "the plaintiff" in a court case. There is reference to " ... the lady who is now his wife ..." and " ... Edna Prince, wife of the plaintiff gave evidence ...".

Narrows down possible marriage date.

Thanks for your help.

Yes I do and I've looked up the cutting.

So the marriage had to have taken place between 26th October 1926 and 17th February 1928.

So looking at Free BMD there are 3 possible Charles H Prince marriages but none of the brides is called Edna. There is one in 1927 with a bride called Amy E Davies in Howden, Yorkshire. Wonder if Edna was her middle name and she preferred to use it?

Unfortunately I don't think I can confirm without ordering the certificate.

I'd spotted that and wondered. Unfortunately, I'm having a terrible time with FindMyPast responses and making no progress.
Checked Scotland's People for the period in question - drew a blank.

Is Edna still around in 1939?  If you can find her on the 1939 register (she might still be at the 1933 address if you're lucky) her DoB might enable you to find a birth registration.  GRO index gives full names as well as mmn.

'the lady who is now his wife' relates to the defendants wife and not Edna Prince.

FindMyPast seems to have been playing up this afternoon. Thanks for checking Scotland's People. I really want something more before committing to ordering the certificate. If Edna was a younger lady she could have remarried after 1933 and if she was older she could have been a widow when she married him. Too many variables are making it a difficult search.
