James Neighbour - uttering counterfeit money

Hi All,

I am looking for newspaper articles and/or court records of James Neighbour (and maybe in association with others) being prosecuted for uttering counterfeit money in 1829/30 around Chipping Barnet.

This accords with an entry in the Hertfordshire Criminal Register, available at Anc*

This record was the Lent Assizes, and they were all sentenced to “1 year and sureties”

Another James Neighbour of Herts was charged & convicted in 1820 for House Breaking. He was sent to NSW.

Second James Neighbour arrived in 1834 on the Lady Kennaway in Feb 1835. Sent to Van Diemen's Land. (Tasmania). Charged with theft.

Neither the 1820 or 1834 convict appears to be the one who was charged with uttering.

That is some of the information I was after.   

Is there any indication of the relationship between the three Neighbour people? 

James & John I think are brothers and while they have a sister Mary Ann I think this will be James' wife, also Mary Ann.  They must have spent some time together in jail as Mary Ann gives birth to a daughter (yet another Mary Ann) in early January 1831.

I am pretty sure this is the James Neighbour sent to VDL in 1834/5 in the Lady Kennaway.  His convict record says he was not guilty of stealing a fish (which I found in Islington in 1827), given 12 mths for bad money (it would seem so from this enquiry in 1830), and transportation for 7 years for stealing a coat valued at 4s (also in Islington).

So I tried to get the 13 Mar 1830 Herts Mercury article from HALS.  I entered all my details and made payment last Friday only to get a message yesterday that because of Brexit they haven't yet worked out how to service overseas customers (I am in Australia).

The Brexit referendum was in June 2016 and official exit 31 Jan 2020 so in four years and nearly eight months they haven't yet worked out how to deal with overseas customers?  How much revenue are they losing from this?

As financial controller for the company I work for, I would have been sacked long before now for not finding a way to maintain such an income stream.

Anyhow, complaining doesn't get me the article. 

I don't like to impose on people but I feel I am left with no other option but to ask if some-one who may be visiting HALS in person can get the article for me; its a bit of a long walk from here.  It doesn't have to be an image, just a very good transcript would do.  I don't expect anyone to pay for it, just if it's free if viewed in person.
