Ethel Mary Holley
« on: Tuesday 17 September 24 12:32 BST (UK) »
Ethel (1882-1973) was my maternal grandmother she married William Mereweather in 1915.
In the 1911 census she was listed as a barmaid in The Anchor a pub in Harwich (Essex).
Why she went there I guess we will never know, however, a bit of family gossip suggests that there may have been a "liaison" with a famous nautical figure!
I've never been able to find anything, before I give up I just thought I'd post..

CORRECTION
I've just been told that I've got the pub & location wrong. Apparently it was some years earlier and it should have been The Weymouth Hotel in Weymouth.

Bob -- what are you hoping to find please? Not sure if you are simply talking about the rumoured 'liaison' - or simply that you cannot find certain records for her.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Please see correction to original post.
Thanks for response . I'm not really sure what I might discover, if anything its just one of those old family stories which sadly there is probably no way to check.
Interestingly Ethel moved from the pub in Harwich to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street where we think she met my grandfather in 1913/14.
