Unfortunately the only record that seems to have survived for him is the award of the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal on 1st July 1912. This medal was awarded to Territorial Force soldiers after they had completed 12 years service. This suggests that he joined the Cheshire Yeomanry in 1900. Quite possibly he enlisted in order to serve with the
Imperial Yeomanry force which went to serve in the 2nd Boer War, but since there is no record of him receiving the South Africa medal, it is unlikely he actually went there.
It is also unlikely that he saw any action during the First World War if he was still serving. The Cheshire Yeomanry remained on Home Defence duties in East Anglia for much of the early years, then the 1/1 Regiment went to Egypt, and the 1/2 Regiment to Ireland.
His regimental number was 146.
I assume that you have seen that he left a will.
