Fulwood Barracks?

Would anyone be able to help, I am doing a family tree for my son's partner.

Her 3x Grt Grandfather was Thomas Ashworth born 1837 Preston. I have found him on the 1871 census. (His wife and children are living at a different address)

The information states special inmate. volunteer corp (slipper maker) Militra Bks Fishwick.

Would this be Fulwood Barracks?

What was a volunteer Corporal, would he be living in for training.

The address is "Barracks for 3rd Royal Lanc Militia". This address is preceded by -
New Hall Lane
The Barley Mow Inn
and is followed several sheets later by -
Cato Street.

I used to have a book about the Lancashire Militia - but needless to say I can't find it at the moment!

There is a Lancashire Infantry Museum in Preston which may be of interest and may be able to help with your query.

I just assumed it was Fulwood barracks because it is the only one I know in Preston.

New Hall Lane is in the Fishwick area.

The book I had gave names and details of things the units were involved in - I won't have thrown it away (I just have too many family history books!)

I don't live that far away from it either and regularly passed it, but never visited.

The photo shows a squarish three storey building with turrets at the corners. From this info I think it is the unlabelled building behind (NNW of) the Barley Mow on the map linked by hanes teulu.
