There is this birth...

HINTON, VINCENT  mmn ESSEX
GRO Reference: 1850  J Quarter in AMERSHAM  Volume 06  Page 337

1851
Harefield, Middlesex

John Hinton 36 Head
Rose Hinton   30   Wife
John Hinton 9 Son
Sarah Hinton 6 Daughter
Ann Hinton 5 Daughter
Joseph Hinton 3 Son
William Hinton 1 Son, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

It looks like he was registered Vincent, but called William?

Also a daughter was called Rose, her marriage 1915 online with his details as William. Looks like after 1911 from 1921? he was recorded as Vincent...unless there is a better explanation.

Added: John Hinton & Rose Essex married 1840 - image online. No William Hinton registered same area/time.

Certainly all sounds plausible. My dad on his birth certificate is Raymond but has always gone by the name of Tom. His mum wanted him called Raymond, his dad Thomas but she registered the birth but he refused to call him it, so Tom stuck. Same with his younger brother Dick, who was registered Christopher. Could this possibly be the case here?

Its definitely my Hannah. Just been looking at the 1891 Census in detail and her place of birth is listed as Lincoln, Broadholme, Saxilby. Guess she couldnt decide but at least there is a link now to Broadholme

Thats what I've just started looking foir. I'd figured from the 1911 that the wedding must have been around 1880 since it said married for 30 years. However I was looking around Broadholme since thats where the oldest son was born, but i guess she could have been visiting.

The next oldest is born in Yorkshire so with this marriage adds weight to her visiting around birth of oldest son.

William is a railway signalman and thet certainly travel around a fair bit.

Hannah's 2 older half-siblings are residents of Pitsmoor which doesn't look too far from there. So perhaps she was visiting them at some point?

Looking again at 1881 the people they are boarding with..wife Ann is born Bucks, so could be sister to William..but not checked.
