Christening William Clark Petty Inverness

I believe this is the  christening for William Clark of Petty, son of John Clark.

Having trouble reading the entire entry. Also, is the  christening date the 12 Aug 1738 below the entry or 28 July 1738 above the entry?

William   William Clark his Brother in moie-Hall
& Hugh Dallas in Balnachrie witnesses

I would say the baptism took place on 28th July (it was a Friday in 1738) because the entry begins with "Then..." That seems to tie in with it happening on the same day, but after the previous baptism. Hence the use of "Ditto" instead of repeating "July". The session clerk probably made both entries in the register at the same time from any notes he had taken.

The only contraction I can think of for 'moie' would be 'moiety'
1 a : one of two equal parts : half. b : one of two approximately equal parts. 2 : one of the portions into which something is divided : component, part. 3 : one of two basic complementary tribal subdivisions.

So this child had two witnesses
William Clark and Hugh Dallas

But other than these suggestions I have no idea what the meaning would be and why he would have brothers and one being a brother and having the same name?

William the witness, is the brother of John, the father of the child William being baptized.
So the child William is his nephew.

Aha so the brothers includes William the uncle of the child, is the other witness also related as it says brothers

The modern spelling of the area is Moy and the place appears on maps today as Moy Hall. There is no consistent use of capital letters with names in Scottish records from earlier times. What you are interpreting as an s at the end of "Brother" is actually the i of the following "in".

Thanks for all the added details.  It has added a few clues that I ma working on.  Not any results as yet and Scotland's People is presently not processing a payment for credits.  Hopefully back online soon as there seems to be a number of possible siblings  baptized in Petty 1731-1738.  However, there also may be two John Clarks in Petty having children at that time.
