Davey family of Llanishen etc
« on: Monday 02 September 24 05:22 BST (UK) »
My great great great great grandparents Samuel Davey and Ann Harry were married in Llanishen in 1785 but I haven't really found anything further back than that regarding the Daveys in Wales. I believe it's usually a name which is more associated with Cornwall and the Westcountry area. One bizarre thing though is that some members of the younger generations of Daveys went by Davies or David and then some even changed back to Davey again but I've no idea why. Another noticeable thing is that many of them had very Old Testament first names including lots that weren't all that common for the time when comparing with other records in Wales. I think some of them worked in the tin industry and moved around the various nearby villages including Machen and eventually a lot of them settled further up in the Rhymney Valley too. I'd be very grateful if anyone can offer anything more about the family ancestry.

The transcription of FreeReg says her name was Ann HARRIES, both of this parish.  However the witnesses were Margaret REES and Edward HARRY, so either name could be correct.

Good Mornng
Not doing very well on this one.
I can find Ann Harry's bapt 13.5.1766 d of William Edward Harry and his wife Mary.
William Edward Harry was buried 21.2.1766
Older brother Thomas 9.1.1763
Frankly given the gaps in the records ,they could have had another 10 children and the Vicar wouldn't have noticed.

William Edward Harry is witness 10.4.1765 to the wedding of Evan Evans and Mary Lewis.
The Harrys seem to be the local family and the Daveys from elsewhere as you said.

There is a Lewis William David and his wife Elizabeth with children in the parish
Mary 13.3.1761,Elizabeth 2.2.1763 and Ann 20.4.1766.
He married Elizabeth Watkin at her parish of Whitchurch 15.5.1760
Lewis was buried 2.4.1798

It's possible that they were Samuel's parents, but I'm not saying that with any confidence.Given Samuel and Ann's second son was a John Davey I'd be looking for a father John.

heddwch, I'm interested to know why you think Samuel DAVEY who marries in Llanishen is the Samuel DAVY born in Liskeard with parents Samuel and Constance? Just wondering.

Also I note that there is only one Samuel DAVY/DAVEY baptised in 1764 at Liskeard - on 11 Jan 1764, son of Samuel and Constance. There is a burial for a Samuel DAVY/DAVEY 10 May 1765 at Liskeard, no age given.
