If the adoption took place more than 25 years ago, you can contact the NRS Adoption Unit by email at
adoptions@nrscotland.gov.uk or by phone at 0131 535 1355 or 0131 535 1383.
Use the Adoption Search Reunion website
If you don't know the name of the adoption agency, you can use the locating adoption records database on the Adoption Search Reunion website.
You will need to pay a fee to apply for adoption records, which is £141 in the sheriff court and £339 in the Court of Session. You may be able to claim an exemption from paying the court fee.
To order an official extract from the registers, you will need the following information:
The full adoptive name
The date of birth
The names of the adoptive parents
For recently granted adoptions, the court and date of the adoption order
