Google and Windows 11
« on: Sunday 25 August 24 18:22 BST (UK) »
I have a new desk top PC with Windows 11 for the first time. I have always used Google and want to continue. Chrome is installed but I cannot get the Google screen, i.e the one that has the word Google on it with a search box underneath. When clicking on the Chrome icon I get a screen that just shows short cuts to the last site I was on. I have downloaded Google chrome again but to no effect. Any suggestions as to solve this will be much appreciated but as a very non computer person please keep advice as simple as possible.
Thank you jcr11

Download and use Firefox as you default browser.

Windows 11 is a pain, it defaults to using Edge

Try this to set Google as your default search engine in Edge:-

1. Click on "Settings and More" icon (three horizontal dots) on the top right corner of the screen.
2. Click on "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
3. Click on "Privacy, search, and services".
4. Scroll down to the "Services" section.
5. Click on "Address bar and search".
6. From the "Search engine used in the address bar" menu, select "Google" or any other preferred search engine.

Thank you for replying. I have downloaded Firefox. I have clicked on the settings icon and then opened up "settings". I cannot find the" Privacy search and services" heading. There is a Privacy and Security heading but I cannot see any reference to Address bar. Thus I am no further forward.

Have a read at

https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/windows-11-how-to-set-google-as-your-default-search-engine-instead-of-bing/

There are instructions for making the necessary changes within Edge (if you want to keep that browser) and within Firefox.
