About a Grave in Carnmoney Main Cemetery
« on: Saturday 24 August 24 21:01 BST (UK) »
I have found a grave plaque and a grave vase for two of my ancestors in a grave plot in Carnmoney Main Cemetery (one is the mother, the other is the son - both with same surname).

The Cemetery details for this grave shows other individuals as "Others Here" - two of them named and with death dates and four others 'unknown' and 'death unknown'. The named individuals surnames are not recognisable as being part of the family.

The cemetery aerial view suggests the grave is outlined with stone and has a large gravestone at the end.

My question is - is it likely that all of the persons associated with this grave are related?  Or is it possible that the plot has been used/reused to house unrelated family plaques/vases?

I'm having difficulty finding the maiden name of the mother concerned and it might help if it was likely that she was related to the others on the plot (in addition to the son).

Thanks.

The Carnmoney Cemetery database was created by another smaller company April 2021 then imported by Everafter ?last year. https://www.irishgenealogynews.com/2021/04/new-free-burials-database-for-antrim.html
There were many errors in the original database in the detailed view burial and death dates the wrong way and additional entries with eg the burial date alone one had to view all the entries and summary view and try to suss out the facts. The 'unknown's are likely erroneous.
Sometimes graves were purchased by Friendly Societies such as the Oddfellows and Rechabites more so for the older City Cemetery in Belfast so see unrelated people interred together. People contributed regular sums eg 1890 like a burial/funeral insurance scheme to ensure they were interred properly and not in a public grave.
Could try the Belfast newspaper death notices to find out more about the others named.

Hi Leon47,
Just saw your message about unknown persons in same grave.
How close in years did both parties die?
It could be correct what Jon_ni, you might find some information
if any death notices are available.

I too found the same problem with my family but it was other
                    member of older people.

Good luck on your search,      Billy.

They died 24 years apart.

I am considering a subscription to a Newspaper archive site but wondering which one would be best for old Northern Ireland newspapers - mainly Belfast Telegraph.

I'll start a different thread for that.

Hi Leon47,
24 years apart, I think they might be family or computer fault.
Don’t think that they can use someone’s plot that soon.
You can get in touch with the cemetery’s office.

The old papers can be search for free in the Newspapers Archives
just around the corner from the Belfast Central Library.
It’s best to check times of opening also take a memory stick for
                    what you find.

I have Shropshire Archives Library here and use them for free
Find my past, British Newspapers, Ancestry.
When I use this archives, I logged into the Newspapers set up
my account “ free” at home.
Then log in down there and save anything I find, at home you
open the account and go to saved.

Ancestry finds can be sent to any Wi-Fi address.
Best of luck, let us know if they are family.
                                    Billy.
