Tuesday 24th September 2024, 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm (Zoom sign-in from 7.15pm)
As an additional talk Dorset Family History Society will be hosting an online Zoom meeting talk entitled ‘WHEN HARRY MET DOTTY’ by DR NICK BARRETT.
This talk is an extended case study and Dr Nick Barrett attempts to unlock the mystery of his grandmother’s origins, which is the ultimate brick wall given she was born overseas and was fostered in England, not knowing the names of either parent. Nick’s grandmother’s story crosses three continents and involves bigamy, crime and false identity, and was only resolved by using a range of techniques including DNA and handwriting analysis – hopefully providing clues for the audience if they have similar challenges in their own family trees.
Dr Nick Barratt is an author, historian and broadcaster best known for his work on ‘Who Do You Think You Are’. He is the Executive Director of Student Journey at Royal Holloway University of London, a visiting fellow at the Open University, a teaching fellow at the University of Dundee, and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His most recent publication, The Restless Kings, tells the story of the family of Henry II.
