Residence on 1820 baptism record at Lletroed Chapel
« on: Friday 23 August 24 14:38 BST (UK) »
I am looking at a baptism record for a direct ancestor, Elizabeth Williams.
The baptism is on 17th December 1820 at Lletroed Chapel, Anglesey. The entry on Wales, Select Births and Baptisms (1541 - 1907) gives the baptism place as 'Nebo Calvinistic Methodist, Llanwenllwyfo, Anglesey, Wales'. The record on England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers (1567 - 1970) shows it as 'Baptism Place Llelbroed Chapel, Anglesey, Wales
Denomination Calvinistic Methodist.
The accompanying image shows that it is actually Lletroed Chapel.
All of this is great, and very helpful to me.
The bit I am asking for help with is the parents' residence as recorded on the image.
It looks to me to say 'Wayn'.
I can't find any location of that or a similar name in the area: I suppose it could just be the name of a house.
Does the name mean anything to anyone with knowledge of the area?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

From index birthplace is given as Llaneilian, Anglesey.

From baptism image this is the area they are living

Thanks for your reply BumbleB.

Sadly the map did not help in working out the residence.
However, I think I have stumbled on a better clue.

There is another baptism record in 1823 at the same chapel which seems to be clearly for a sibling of my direct ancestor, and on that image the residence is shown as 'Tyn y Waun'.

Searching for that name at least returns some hits, and seems more likely to be correct than the name in the earlier baptism, but I have still not found my ancestors place of residence.

Correction - heading says that is the fathers parish - did not read fully.

<It looks to me to say 'Wayn'.>

My immediate reaction is Anglicised version of Waun

Have you found Ty'n-y-Maen on this map?

Oops, sorry - I got Maen and Waen mixed up.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

I think that the residence 'Tyn Y Waun' on the 1823 baptism is probably the correct one, and that the entry 'Wayn' on the 1820 baptism is probably an attempt at specifying the same place.
I can't find a likely hamlet/village of that name in the area so I think it is most likely a house name.

Thanks again for all the replies.
