James Brown Laurie
« on: Thursday 22 August 24 03:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to learn more about my 3rd great great Uncle, James Brown Laurie.
His parents are Robert Laurie and Jean Scott.
His siblings were Thomas 1794, Mary 1796, Martha 1798, Janet 1803, Jean 1806, Elizabeth 1808, John 1811 (my Line) and William 1813.
In 1841 his parents were living at Lauries Hall, Carluke, Lanarkshire.
Robert Laurie labourer age 60
Jean Laurie age 65
William Laurie age 25
Elizabeth Brown Laurie age 25.
Both James and Elizabeth were given the Brown middle name.
Any help with James or even Lauries Hall would be most appreciated.
Carol (NZ)

I agree with that as the Laurie name is spelt like that on some BMD entries I have seen. Will try Mr Google with that spelling and see if he has anything.

Thank you.

This part of a report from the 7 Nov 1908 Carluke and Lanark Gazette may be relevant

I can see why Jane was known as Granny Scott. In the 1881 census, she had 3 children and 7 grandchildren Plus her husband. They sure were tough in those days.

Still no sign of James Brown Laurie.
