There are lots of harbour reports in newspapers with “Janet, Aberdeen” – what period is this?

I'm guessing 1857 - from the name of the file.  ;)

Janet, Aberdeen

[no master named]

I haven't managed to find an entry in Lloyd's Register for this date.  I have found a different ship: in 1880 for a Janet, Aberdeen, also built in Aberdeen, 1867.

After wondering about this for several years, yesterday when I uploaded it, I finally decided that it probably says Comet, but it could be Janet. I don't think there is an s on the end. That particular line refers to 1835 or 36. The tonnage isn't listed. The 1857 reference in the file name is from the date of the last entry.  Is the next ship Mary or Marys?

One other question, two or three of the entries mention ballast and coasting. I assume coasting is just pottering about up and down the coast, and ballast is carrying some disposable cargo to avoid sailing an empty ship. any comments?

Hi, well this Comet would be a fairly old ship by 1836, but a possibility?

Or possibly more likely!

David, thank you, good research. I still think it says Comet rather than Janet and I'm very pleased to possibly see a picture. thank you.

I also found this, search for Janet, she was a coaster, but if there are links to subsequent ships …
