Friern Barnet Hospital records
« on: Wednesday 21 August 24 12:28 BST (UK) »
Recently watched a repeat of WDYTYA episode for Jonnie Peacock when he was shown by a researcher the medical records and photo of his grandfather who was admitted to Friern Barnet hospital . Cant imagine its that easy. My problem is my husband wants to access the medical records of his grandmother, who died in Friern Barnet in 1943, was there in 1939 too. Her death certificate states a
physical cause of death but we want to know if she suffered from a mental condition too. Her daughter ( my husbands birth mother) committed suicide aged 27, and he has no idea what conditions run in his family because he was adopted out of this family. Is there any way he could access her medical history? Or is it a waste of time? Id appreciate any help. Thanks.

The medical records will be closed to public inspection until 100 years after the date of the last entry in the relevant volume. But the staff at The London Archives (formerly London Metropolitan Archives) may be able to extract the relevant records and send them to you, as part of their paid research service. The best approach is to email them and ask.

Thanks both. Very grateful. I’ll try contacting the London Archives.
