WW1 Enlisting in London
« on: Wednesday 21 August 24 11:59 BST (UK) »
Hi..I have a Question hoping it can be answered...
How and why when Enlisting to join the Army in WW1 in London
You could be attached to different Army Regions regiments ,not always a London regiment
Like
The Loyal north Lancashire reg  or the Shropshire light infantry...The reason I ask is that my Grandfather and his brothers  served mostly in non London Regiments.....thanks

If they enlisted after Conscription was introduced in 1916 then they were no longer given a choice of which service, regiment or unit they joined.

As Tony said, after Conscription was introduced, they went where the Army needed soldiers to make up the losses that every regiment suffered.
