Findagrave query

If someone has many memorials in one cemetery on Findagrave, do they ‘own’ the whole cemetery or can others add other graves that aren’t on?  I’ve seen the details where they should hand over management if a grave they’ve put on is requested to hand over to a relative,  but I couldn’t tell if they could block someone new from adding graves they haven’t included. I couldn’t tell the answer from the Findagrave sites. I haven’t joined yet but was wondering if I might do. Thanks .

No they don’t.  I think the handing over is only when a relative wants to take it over.

I have never heard of anyone 'owning' a whole cemetery.  Yes, I believe that anyone is free to add memorials no matter that someone else may have added a lot already (as I have for several cemeteries on FaG.). Yes, I agree with Rosie that you are only obliged to hand over to a relative.
That would be great if you joined too Candleflame.  FaG is such a great resource.

Thanks Rosie and RTL. RTL I’d forgotten you’d already done some. It’s just an idea at the moment but I didn’t want to break protocol!

You can always just start with a few, you don't have to continue.   I just did some from a small graveyard near to where I used to live, I have also added some from my tree.  I had a couple of short sessions where I just took photo's of the headstones and entered them when I had time, fortunately at that time only half a dozen had been done for that cemetery so I was not duplicating entries.  I have some that I have not put on for more recent burials and those of very young children in case I was being insensitive.

"Memorials are transferred for relatives with these close relationships: child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great-niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great-aunt/uncle, or first cousin. This would include adoptive, step and in-law versions of these relationships."

A friend, very keen footballer supporter found the grave of the person who founded 'his' football club.   
He found a descendant of the founder and this person gave permission for my friend to look after the grave.  He needed this permission from the Cemetery mangers.
Each year he makes a 400 mile trip to a Cemetery to do this.
