Hello, I have been trying for years to find the death of my Elizabeth Haddow nee Hamilton (approx 1766-185?) who I believe died between 1851 and 1855. She is deceased by her son's death in 1855 and I believe I have found her in an 1851 census with a Lillias Smellie in her 20s and William Smellie aged 2. I believe William to be the son of Lillias McKay and James Smellie. Lillias appears to be the daughter of Donald McKay and Lillias McDonald. I cannot find anything on James Smellie. I do have a couple of Smellies in my tree - David Smellie and Jean Boak whose daughter was Elizabeth Smellie b 1804. I can't find any other children born to David and Jean and am wondering if maybe Jean Boak died and David had children with another woman and maybe James came from that union. The closest Smellie name in my Hamilton offspring is John and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth Haddow Hamilton (1807-1870) who married Gavin McGhie in 1858, but had a child William Smellie Frame in 1850 to a person called Smellie Frame. I also can't find anything on Smellie Frame. Probably grasping at straws there, but surely there has to be a link for Elizabeth Hamilton aged in her 80s to be living with 2 Smellies - Lillias in her 20s and William aged 2. McKay and McDonald don't appear to have any links to my Hamilton and Haddows till many generations later - a Macdonald marrying a Haddow here in Australia - my gr grandparents. Thanks for any insights.
