Adoption Records
« on: Tuesday 13 August 24 23:26 BST (UK) »
Hello, just joined and enjoying reading all the posts!
Been researching family lines for some time and have found an Adoption and wanted to know if there is any way of finding any follow up record for the child. Aware the name will have been changed. Stanley James Jolliffe born 5/10/1928 was kept by single mum Henrietta and baptised before being adopted out. I would love to know more...any pointers are appreciated.

Do you have a birth location?  That might help, as this kind of thing varies by country.

Welcome to Rootschat

There is no Stanley James Jolliffe birth on freebmd in 1928 but there is one with no middle name b Dec qtr 1928 Liverpool mmn also Jolliffe - this would fit an October birthdate

There is a Henrietta Jolliffe birth in Liverpool in 1911 & a marriage to a John Ross in 1934

Does this match your info??

Using just Stanley & his birthdate provides a match under a different surname living in Bolton.  Unfortunately the image is damaged so you need to look at it yourself to see if you can decipher it

Longshot - see 1939 entry

Marriage John Thomas Horrocks to Alice Ann Higham - 1900 Bolton

Only 2 children shown on freebmd - 1913 & 1915

I see you already have some information on your tree on Ancestry re Henrietta's marriage etc

So sorry to everyone for not replying. I went off on another route and its taken me a year to get back to this branch.
I do have more details of his mother Henrietta (marriage and another child, and hopefully a happy life). I just wanted to know how to get access to such old adoption records...I don't suppose its possible these days. I would love to know if he had a good life and if he has children himself.
I doubt I will ever know who his father is or whether it was Henrietta's choice to give him away. I find it a little difficult to comprehend that she kept him for a short while, baptised him and then gave him up.
