Sconce, near Coleraine
« on: Tuesday 13 August 24 11:22 BST (UK) »
Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I located the death record for an ancestor, Matilda Ogilby, in Coleraine. Under her date of death, 28 February 1968, it states “Ramshorn” Sconce then R.D.

I think it’s referring to the Sconce area just outside Coleraine but unsure what the “Ramshorn” refers to… she was registered by her daughter who resided in Bushmills Road.

Thank you!
Lara

I was unable to find any Ramshorn place... Perhaps it is the cause of death?

It did cross my mind… haha! But cause of death has been listed separately.

I’ve attached a section of it (hopefully this is ok!)

Column 2 gives the date and place of death. Column 8 gives the 'Certified cause of death and duration of illness'.

The townland is Sconce west of Coleraine.

Ramshorn was likely to be the formal name of her house.

Edited to Add:
R.D. probably Rural District (Coleraine?)

"Ramshorn" is shown exactly like that, in inverted commas. So it's most likely the name of a house, as Kiltaglassan suggests.

"Ramshorn" could be the name of a farm or house. In any case, it name have been a name used by only one owner and thus harder to trace.
