Swift Current WW1
« on: Sunday 11 August 24 19:27 BST (UK) »
Is there any information or a database with men who joined up to serve from Swift Current during WW1. I am looking for information on Thomas Cave and there is no record on Ancestry.
Thank you. Heather

I’ve yet to find my grandfather’s Canadian WWI military details.  My mum told us a story about his time in England and we have at least one photo of him in uniform with his fellow soldiers.  Perhaps some forms were just not digitised?

In the 1916 Census, Thomas with his wife and two young children are in Swift Current, with him arriving in 1912, and his wife and first child, aged 3, arriving in 1914. The younger child is aged 9 months born in Canada.  He has another son in early 1917, not leaving much time for him to have served in WWI.

Note that depending which branch of the military people were in you might not find them:

This database does not include records for individuals who served in the Royal Canadian Navy or in the British air services.

Another option would be to apply for someone's 1940 registration file. This should give details of previous military service, if any:

Thank you for all the replies. Although I can not find any record of Thomas Cave from Swift Current having served in WW1 I have this info. I have read that the CEF started recruiting at Swift Current in early 1916 and sailed for England in November 1916. At the Baptist Church in Bridgwater Somerset Uk where Thomas father, also Thomas Cave was a member, there is a memorial plaque including the name T Cave, to those who served during the 1st world and those who were killed. Thomas jnr had a first cousin who also shared his name and emigrated to Canada but it’s unlikely to be him as he was a Methodist. Just wondered if I could find ant ‘proof’
