Hello everyone,

I'm seeking assistance in finding out more information about Richard Ellis. Here’s what I have so far:

- Richard Ellis was baptised on 21 June 1790 at St. Mary Magdalene, Nottinghamshire, England. His parents are listed as John Ellis and Alice.
- Richard married Mary Proctor on 12 July 1810.

I've hit a brick wall and need help finding more details about Richard’s life and his parents. Since John is a common name, I'm struggling to locate the correct records for John and Alice, especially their marriage record.

Additionally, I've heard that around this period, there was Luddites that protested against new machinery in Nottinghamshire. Some participants were sent to Australia as a result. It would be interesting to know if anyone from the Ellis family was involved in these events.

Any guidance on locating and finding where to find further records or information on these aspects would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for sharing this information, Colin. I appreciate your help! It does seem likely that the Ellis family lived in Newark or possibly Mansfield. It also seems the family was connected to the church, so it's likely they could be related but I'm not sure exactly how or what that connection might have been. If you could share the details of any nearby marriages, that would be really helpful in furthering the search. Thanks again!
