Hi All,
Fanny Farey/Fairey had her birth registered 12/1837 at St Neots being the daughter of William Farey and Eliza Parkins. She is with her paternal Farey grandparents in Eynesbury for the 1841 Census.
She had a younger brother George Farey registered 12/1839 St Neots and he is with his parents, also in Eynesbury, for the 1841 Census.
The father William Farey dies 3/1841 at St Neots and the mother Eliza Farey dies 3/1845 also at St Neots. This leaves the 8yo Fanny and 6yo George as orphans.
For the 1851 Census Fanny is with a paternal aunt Elizabeth Irons (nee Farey) in St Neots while George using a supposed middle name of Charles is at the Eaton Socon Workhouse. He eventually becomes a shoe maker, gets married, has children and lives in Kettering.
Fanny marries Samuel Staughton in 3/1853 at St Neots seemingly at the age of 15y 9m with Samuel being just about 21. I can't find either of these on the 1861 census.
I found references to a couple of newspaper articles, which I can't download until I get to the library next week, that indicate Fanny Staughton was being transferred to or from Eaton Socon and St Mary Islington as a pauper lunatic. I am in the same position with the 15 entries in 1857 for Workhouse admissions in Islington. Hereafter I lose all trace of her.
When did she die; where did she die? You would assume either near Eaton Socon or near Islington at a time between 1856 and 1865.
Samuel Staughton marries again 12/1865 at St Neots to Sarah Annie Lee and they have several children and are living in Kimbolton for the 1871 census. This marriage is 7+ years after Fanny was probably declared insane so is that when you could re-marry without a death or divorce? If so then did Fanny die much later?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Colin
