Mary's original surname was Best = birth registration 1928.

1939 Register initially has her entered as Mary Best, but that surname is crossed out and McDevitt entered when she marries John McDevitt in 1950.

The 1939 Register was regularly updated, unlike parish registers.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
