This is interesting.
In 1911, Maria Ann Evans is recorded as ‘widow’ whilst James Smith Evans is ‘head’.

I began to post this but don’t think I did.
Your couple are together in 1881 too - as head and housekeeper and Mary Ann is a widow.

There is a marriage in Manchester in 1867 between William Thomas Evans and Mary Anna Ogden.
