Hi, I've been looking for an Arthue Hughes, circa 1780/90 born Louth. All I know - he was Roman Catholic and a stonemason.
I now think I've found him. Is there anyway I can find the occupation of someone born 1786 until his death in  1866?? I don't see a census.
I would be happy to visit if there was somewhere in the area with relevant
Info.

Death cert should note his occupation, although the early deaths between 1864 and 1870 are not covered yet on IrishGenealogy website. Unfortunately early Catholic baptism and marriage records dont usually record occupation.

Hi, you say they're not online . Does that mean there is a record somewhere and if so, where are the records ?

Hi, His death record is in 1867, maybe he passed in December and wasn't registered until the January the record will tell you.
The get a record got to this site.  Go to Civil records and enter his name and 1867 then look for Dundalk.
Follow the link as the link as the image is not there, you will get a copy of the actual record entry.
It will be 5 Euro.....£4.45 ish. They will contact you to say they have it then you pay and then they send it to you.

An Arthur Hughes is also listed on  Griffith's Valuation at Bailyland townland, dated about April 1854, his holding is described a house, offices (stables, workshops etc) and just over 1 acres of land

Hi, I have another Hughes query. I'm dna matched to Peter Hughes b1857. Married to Margaret Lyons. On the 1901 census he is described as "publican living next door to public house" . This is Marsh Street, Drogheda. So, I'm wondering what the pub is/was called.
Is it Mother Hughes? That's on my visit list for a Guinness.  I think the story about Mother Hughes involved the owner going to America.
Anyway, if there's 2 pubs to visit all the better !

Mother Hughes is on North Road, which is on the opposite side of the river Marsh Road is on.
When Peter died the local newspapers reported him as Peter Hughes The Marsh and Peter Hughes Marsh House.
This could be the names of the pub or his house, most pubs in Ireland simply have/had the surname of the owner.
In this case The Marsh House is the name of the pub.

The Irish Independent had a series on pubs, the did a feature on The Marsh House, I’m not registered to read it but you can see the first line.
