Location of East Ham Register Office in 1936
« on: Tuesday 23 July 24 18:08 BST (UK) »
My dad was married in East Ham Register Office in 1936, and I'm trying to locate its exact location on a map.

A 1937 newspaper article mentions it is "opposite the station"  and a 1954 newspaper article mentions it being on the High Street.  I've looked at some old OS maps but I don't see the Register Office marked anywhere on the High Street or near East Ham Station.

I did wonder if it simply became Newham Register Office, but judging by the OS maps Newham Register Office was previously the library.

Although I see that East Ham Town Hall was opposite a police station, so maybe that was the "station" the newspaper article referred to.

Can anyone pinpoint where it was for me?

thanks
Mark

Sorry, but I have to ask - Why?

Perhaps Station Chambers is the first floor of Station Parade in East Ham, above the shops?

Yes, it is in High Street North, opposite the station.
